Birthstones bring good luck and fortune to the person wearing them. Historical time, history, and regions can determine what gemstones are used as birthstones. If your "modern" stone doesn't appeal to you, look at one of the alternate stones, or find your birth date under zodiac signs.
Birthstones are the time honored jeweler's way to design jewelry. Since many of the stones are precious gemstones and not as easily obtained in beads or pendants, we have tended to use the wider range of stones available through the zodiac signs for the person's birthdate. The Rose Quartz necklace is an example of a January alternate birthstone. Please be aware that many of these gemstones are not available to make jewelry from at this time.
